Race timing is an unforgiving RFID application: thousands of participants, one chance to read each of them, and a human body — mostly water — standing between the tag and the mat antenna. Manual timing cannot scale to a marathon field, and an ordinary adhesive label fails at exactly the wrong moment, pressed against a sweating runner at the finish line.
Purpose-built timing tags solve the physics rather than fight it. Foam-backed bib tags from our specialty range hold the UHF inlay a few millimeters off the body, preserving read performance as runners cross start, checkpoint and finish mats; they stick to the back of the bib and need no action from the athlete. For the operation around the race — kit bags, gear check, merchandise, access wristbands — economical stickers from the multi-frequency label catalog usually do the job without specialty pricing.
Dogbone-style inlays are the workhorse antenna geometry in this family, chosen for dependable capture in dense, fast-moving packs, and transparent-PET sport labels cover events where tags mount to bikes or equipment rather than bibs. Because timing tags are single-use and disposable by design, there is no chip recovery logistics after the finish line — runners simply keep their bibs.
Timelines matter more in events than in any other industry we serve, because race day does not move. Build the schedule around a fixed rhythm: quotes within 24 hours of your enquiry, free samples (freight collect) in 3–5 working days for mat testing, and volume production 7–15 days after artwork approval on ISO 9001-audited partner lines. Bib printing and chip encoding are customizable, so tags can arrive matched to your entry list and ready for volunteers to attach.
